Let the peace of Christ rule your heart

February 7th, 2007

peace trainDoes the peace of Christ rule your heart? In the past the command to let the peace of Christ rule your heart in Colossians 3:15 was a challenge for me to understand. I want to offer some help in understanding and applying this command from God.

The peace of Christ is the peace which Christ gives. Jesus said…

John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.

Peace is a gift from God. True peace cannot be found outside of Christ. God told His people that He would send His Messiah, the Prince of Peace. The Messiah, Jesus Christ, would establish His kingdom and bring true peace to the subjects of that kingdom.

A Review: Safe in the Arms of God

February 6th, 2007

new safeJohn MacArthur has written a wonderful little book (175 pages) giving encouragement to those who have lost a child. The book is biblical in that it exposits relevant biblical texts, practical in that it provides clearly outlined action to take in light if Scripture, and encouraging in that it communicates God’s mercy and compassion. It will certainly be a book I recommend to those who have experienced miscarriages or the trial of losing a child.

I’ll give a synopsis of the book and then consider various strengths and weaknesses of the book.

A Review: The Beginner’s Guide to the Gift of Prophecy

February 1st, 2007

beginners guide to prophecyThe Beginner’s Guide to the Gift of Prophecy is a 150 page book by Jack Deere instructing modern Christians how to use the gift of prophecy. I cannot give a favorable to book, because I believe Scripture teaches the gift of prophecy was energized by God in the early stage of the church. Ephesians 2:20 is sufficient to support this conclusion. In that passage Paul says the foundation of the church is made up of the apostles and prophets. This review is an opportunity for me to interact some with the view of the continuationist.

Deere believes the gift of prophecy is energized by God in the church today. He writes to tell people how to use the gift.
